Christmas Trees • Quilt Finish

Biography of this quilt:

Factoid #1: It could be Christmas Trees. It could be Easter Trees. It could be Halloween Trees, even though I posed it in a Christmasy setting in a small town in Arizona.

Factoid #2: Started in a small sewing group swap in 2016, it lingered in a bag somewhere in my closet. I found it again this year, and when my friend Lisa finished hers up and prompted me to Get Going.

Factoid #3: The block pattern has been spruced up into a charming new version of itself. Get it yourself by clicking on the Download button:

This free download will also be at my pattern shop on PayHip.

Factoid #4: This is a great quilt for using the shirt from your husband/boyfriend/son that has worn out. Or your Dad (see different trees from different shirts, below–somehow blue checks are popular).

Factoid #5: These make up fast. What takes the most time is picking out the fabrics. I decided a slim border with a fun binding would finish it off nicely.

Factoid #6: This is the second “holiday-ish” quilt I finished this year. I never seem to get into the mood until Thanksgiving rolls around. Next on the list: order the Christmas Cards. (eye roll)

Factoid #7: Label

Factoid #8: (last one) This is quilt number 296. Four more to go to reach my goal of 300. Then what? (I don’t know. Probably not much will change.)

Have fun choosing fabrics and breezing through a fast quilt–

  1. You are absolutely one of the best when it comes to writing your blog, photography for your quilts, and finding the best way to display them. I always read your blog a few times and find something I missed on previous readings. I always see something different. At first, I did see the beautiful quilt, and the wreath with decorations. I also noticed the big tree but did not notice the Christmas balls hanging in it nor the fact that the tree was growing out of the engine space even though you did mention the scene would be good for almost any occasion. I also like that you find more than one way to display the same quilt. Obviously, the one you chose for the cover is perfect, but the others photos that you shared were top notch as well. You have an excellent quilt display rack! I know your husband is back there, but I can’t see him. LOL Thank you for the pattern. I have put it in my squirrel cage along with a few other patterns of yours. Maybe next year I will pull one of them out.

  2. It’s a beautiful quilt, and I really like how each block incorporates so many different fabrics. Your thoughts about using shirts and other sentimental fabrics is a good one. The design has so many possibilities! Love the spot you found for picture-taking. Wow! That old truck with a tree growing from the engine… doesn’t it make you wonder whether the truck body was put on top of the tree, or visa versa? In any case, it was the perfect photo spot for making your quilt the star of the scene.

  3. I keep getting distracted by smaller finishes and projects and putting off bigger finishes right now, so it’s good to see that you went back and were able to finish this beauty that sat waiting for the right time. Because we moved, I got our holiday cards (aka new address announcements) sent before Thanksgiving this year — I’m really grateful that chore is over and good luck getting yours done. I really like the alternating backgrounds of black and white in your blocks.

  4. Oh my goodness that old truck. Perfect Christmas card picture!!! There was one in the yard on our street in Massachusetts and I regret never asking if I could photograph a quilt there . Love Everything about this quote, but especially the shirt fabrics.

  5. I’m glad to read I’m not the only one amazed at how quickly time flys. Darling tree quilt and I love the photo with the vintage truck.

  6. I love all the little facts and the photos of your tree quilt. I made Christmas tree quilt a few years ago in soft colors. Still haven’t gotten a good photo of it though.
